Rob Stone Spoke About SEO At OU Web Communications Seminar

M2P0 Internet Marketing President Sharing SEO Facts

Back in January, Rob Stone was asked to speak on behalf of Marketing 2 Point 0, Inc. at a meeting hosted by Public Relations Society of America. That entire discussion centered around how to make sure that a business is relevant online in 2017. At that meeting a few members of OU’s web communications department asked Rob to come out and speak on campus.

It was on March 29,2017 that Rob unleashed some important facts and tips about Search Engine Optimization (SEO) to the group of attendees. After some conversation we thought, perhaps, a lot of people may need help with their own websites, too. So, today we’re reflecting on the meeting (click here to read the OU article) and pointing out the following tips:

  • Relevancy starts with the content you write which should be geared toward your audience. Utilize vocabulary that can be easily understood by your target market while incorporating keywords for SEO purposes.
  • The articles/blogs should be at least 300 words, but not too much more than that with the inclusion of header tags.
  • The words written must be relevant! Do not just write nonsense to fill a page.
  • Utilize Flesch Reading Ease.
  • Choose your key phrase or phrases before writing the content (Google Keyword tool is helpful).
  • Use the key phrase in the first paragraph.
  • Use header tags.
  • Make sure key phrase is in the page title, URL, and Header tags.
  • Have clear visuals, audio or video when possible,  use links whenever necessary to credit outside resources.
  • All images need alt text and image titles that are SEO optimized.
  • Reduce all images to 72 DPI to increase page load speeds.
  • Website Encryption will be the new standard soon.
  • Design with function in mind first, not creativity.
  • Leverage Google’s featured content areas. (Local, News, Shopping, Videos, etc.)
  • Use Citation Flow and Trust Flow for link building.
  • When starting a new site look for an aged domain if possible.
  • Use Mobile friendly/ Responsive web design.
  • Use Google Webmaster Tools to Submit your site map.
  • Use Google Webmaster Tools to identify and correct crawl errors. Use 301 redirects as needed.
  • Integrate the website with your social media as often as possible. Consistent social activity and engagement is a factor.
  • Create new content on a consistent basis. Stay ahead of the competition with volume.
  • Don’t copy and paste content from other websites. Keep it 100% original.
  • Keep the codebase of the website up to date.
  • Setup a profile on and use it when creating articles.

Keeping up with everything connected to SEO can be too much for some small business owners to handle on their own. That’s where we come in! If you’re more of a visual learner and you’d like to know more, feel free to watch the seminar video.

The Importance Of Ongoing Internet Marketing

Why Small Business Internet Marketing Requires Upkeep

Whether you’re paying an internet marketing company to get your name ranked high on the front page of Google search results or you’re doing all the hard work yourself, you may find yourself wondering what happens if you stop. The fact is that doing things the “white hat way” and following all the rules means that it will, generally, take about 3-6 months before you start seeing your company name rise in rank so how long do you think it will take for you to drop off if you suddenly stopped small business internet marketing?

The truth is that it depends on how often Google crawls your site and reindexes the updates you’ve made to the website or lack thereof. The important thing to note is that Google can crawl and index information almost instantaneously in some instances. With that being said some small business internet marketing customers have noticed a drop off within a few days, or even weeks of their website going stale when they decided to stop putting effort into their marketing. One recent example of a marketing customer stopped services and slipped from page one to page two of Google within one week.

Why does the drop off happen so fast?

Think about all the small businesses you have for competition out in your region or even in the nation. If they are fighting for the same number one slot on Google results for <enter your company type here> and you suddenly stop fighting for your spot, then not only do all your past efforts go down the drain, so to speak, but in this scenario your competition gets a leg up in the race.

We know that small business internet marketing takes a lot of time to upkeep, but if you’re doing it we strongly urge you to stick with it. If you’ve been handling all of your internet marketing by yourself, but you can no longer handle those duties along with those of running your business operations, please feel free to contact our marketing team.

2. Facebook Marketing: There are a few ways you can use Facebook to your advantage when planning out your small business internet marketing campaign. Small Business Internet Marketing: Dirty Or Clean?

Small Business Internet Marketing: Slow and steady

You know your small business inside and out, but you may not know the best ways to get your brand name out there among all the competitors. When you go looking for a company to help you out with small business internet marketing there is a lot to consider. You will find those companies that claim they can boost your small business internet marketing campaign by doing “A, B, and C,” but then they don’t have analytics or examples to back up those claims. Then, there may be those that do things “dirty” in an attempt to get you ranked higher on Google, faster. Beware of these types of marketers, because the Google team is smarter than that and eventually the plan will back-fire!

What we’re going to tell you is that we believe in getting you results the “clean” way. It may take a bit longer than you expect, but we won’t lie to you about how long it should take before you will see results from playing nicely. Small business internet marketing can mean doing as little or as much of our program as you want. Of course, the more you do the better the results will be for helping you to bring in more clients.

A few ways our small business internet marketing team can help are by providing you with some of the following important, optional services:

• Paid ads
• Backlinks
• Local search
• Blogging on your website (keeps you fresh)

Now, back to the time frame bit. If you are doing things the “clean” way (or allowing a small business internet marketing team do it for you) then you should expect to see the first sliver of results within a few short months. Will you be the number one agency listed on Google? Perhaps not, but with effort you can get closer to that spot. Within 3-6 months you can find yourself on the first page of Google if the proper measures are taken. Remember “slow and steady wins the race.”

Small Business Internet Marketing: Do You Have What They Want?

Your Website: Is it small business internet marketing or is it a dud?

We’ve said it multiple times, but it’s just that important that we’re going to say it again. Small business internet marketing starts with your website. The website is your business’ digital face. If it looks like a dud, take a guess at what clients are going to think about your company. Sure, for a decent small business internet marketing campaign you need to have a mobile friendly, responsive website. That’s not the end of it! Your website needs to be more than just a pretty face, it needs to have important content, too. It should be acting as a way to market yourself, hence; the small business internet marketing campaign part.

So, what can you do to ensure that your small business’ website isn’t a dud so that you can draw in more clients? First, you need to put your small business internet marketing thinking cap on. You’re a small business owner, so your website should reflect everything you can do for your customer. It’ll be easier to optimize your website in that direction. Most likely the number one reason for a customer stopping by your website would be to obtain basic location information. Make sure you have an area that can allow clients to click for a quick view.

Aside from obtaining this information clients may be looking for:

• Any number of your products or services offered
• A way to contact you directly via phone
• An option to contact without having to call (some hate calling on the phone!)
• Your hours of operation

Other details about your small business such as your staff members or fun filled information will spruce up your website to help clients stick around longer, but the base information mentioned above must be easy to locate for clients. There is nothing worse in this digital age of clients needing things “right now” than them having a hard time navigating your website to find information they want to know. That will make them click the back button quicker than a blink of an eye.

If you need help getting your website in order, give us a call so we can help you with your small business internet marketing!

Mistakes Made With Small Business Internet Marketing

Small Business Internet Marketing: Find solutions

In our past posts we have discussed in great lengths different ideas about small business internet marketing. Sometimes, businesses will take this information and run with it to satisfy the “do-it-yourself” mentality that they have. It’s fantastic to start branding yourself, but there are a few mistakes that can be made with small business internet marketing. We’re going to tell you about some of those common mistakes and also tell you how to fix those mistakes!

Small business internet marketing mistakes:

1.) Bad Pages: A major mistake you can make is having too many main link pages on the front of your website or not having enough precision in the titles of the pages.

2.) Snooze Fest: A common issue is the website content being too boring with plain text on every page.

3.) No Social Ties: If you are blogging, but you don’t have those blogs connected to your social media pages, then you’re doing yourself a disservice.

How do you fix these problems for optimal small business internet marketing?

Small business internet marketing solutions:

1.) Better Pages: A lot of small business owners think making a one-page landing site is good enough. The truth is that Google likes to see a website with more pages, but they have to be precise. Have a set of page links at the top of your home page that speak clearly about what you want to portray to the clients in regards to your business. If you want more information then creating drop down menus from the main page links at the top of your website is a great idea. For example, let’s say you want to talk about your mission, yourself, your team and your community involvement. All of those things can be sub-categories to your “about us” main page link. That makes your site look cleaner, navigate better and diminishes confusion.

2.) Snooze No-More: The content you put on your website is important to small business internet marketing. Your site should have content that is written to convert visitors to clients. You also want to have photos or videos, because graphics make people more likely to stick around.

3.) Getting Social: Connect to your audience on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+ for better small business internet marketing. Your business page should have social posts daily, but more importantly make sure your blogs are showing up on your social networking websites as a way to point back to your website. More people visiting your website means more potential for converted sales!

If you need any assistance getting these things in order for your small business so that you can get the most out of small business internet marketing, then give us a call @ (405-757-4540).

Small Business Internet Marketing and Reputation Management

Small Business Internet Marketing: Clients trust reviews

When planning out your small business internet marketing campaign there are so many aspects to consider. A very powerful way to keep clients coming to your facility for services is managing your reputation. Imagine if your small business has been established, you have a website and you’re trying to go full speed ahead, but a negative review has people turning away. Your small business internet marketing strategy might be to include some reputation management tools.

So you think you’re providing the most excellent customer service? Just keep in mind, that what people say about you online has become the most influential way others decide whether they want to visit your business. Online reviews are becoming one of the most important reflections of your small business’ quality, the employees’ reliability and their skills.

According to findings published by BrightLocal in their annual Local Consumer Review Survey, eighty-eight percent of people trust online reviews just as much as personal recommendations. This is why reputation is so vital. All of your other small business internet marketing strategies such as SEO, social media postings and local search optimization are meant to put you in the spot light which means that they will inevitably lead clients to check you out.

If you have a reputation management system in place you will be able to know what your clients are saying about you. This way, you can tweak your customer service skills for better performance in the future. By having a professional marketing team help you, many disastrous reviews can be eliminated before they bring you down. Great reviews will be distributed to multiple review sites. By being able to keep tabs on what is being said about your small business, it can help you head off major issues before they boil over.
